Cheryle Jackson announces African-American media endorsements

CHICAGO – Flanked by African-American media executives, Cheryle Jackson announced a series of African-American media endorsements for her campaign for the U.S. Senate at a news conference today.

Endorsing Jackson were the Chicago Defender, N’Digo Magazine, WVON, the Chicago Crusader, the Chicago Citizen, CROE TV, the South Street Journal, the Windy City Word, Star Planet and the South Suburban News.

Last week Jackson was endorsed by the Thornton and Proviso Township Regular Democratic Organizations – the two largest Democratic townships in Illinois, Shields Township in Lake County and the South Suburban Mayors Task Force.

Thornton Township is the strongest in Cook County when it comes to voter turnout. Thornton voters cast 41,000 ballots in the 2008 Primary Election.

Jackson is also endorsed by EMILY’s List, the Women’s Campaign Fund, the Cook County Democratic Women, a coalition of pastors representing the Chicago area’s largest churches with congregations that total more than 200,000 people, Congressman Danny Davis, Congressman Bobby Rush and Senator Reverend James T. Meeks.

Why I Support Cheryle
I support Cheryle Jackson because in her own words, she 'puts education first'. Our children need an advocate for education. I also like that she is committed to issues and concerns like health care, protecting women's rights, such as equal pay, as well as her support of women and minority-owned small businesses. I believe that Cheryle will address inequality and inequities where ever she sees them, no matter gender or race. We need more people in office like Cheryle Jackson.
